Do Dogs Get ‘Bored’ of Their Food?

Myth or Fact?

Many pet parents worry that their dogs might get tired of eating the same food every day, assuming they need variety like humans do. But do dogs actually experience food boredom, or is this a human projection?

Understanding Canine Eating Behavior

Dogs have a different relationship with food compared to humans. While we enjoy diverse flavors and textures, dogs rely more on smell than taste. They have around 1,700 taste buds (compared to our 9,000), making them less sensitive to flavor changes. However, they have 300 million olfactory receptors, meaning scent is a major driver of food appeal.
